Id Café Review

“Served Right”
Blazing fast internet a must? Better keep walking because the wifi isn’t great. When it’s busy – and it does get busy, the internet would be considered slow in 1998. Wifi issues aside, if you stop by (and you should), you’ll discover this is a refreshingly well-run café.

The service is professional, attentive, skilled, and quick. Functional English is spoken and the servers will ensure your trà đá (iced tea) glass is always topped off. I’m endlessly impressed with the consistently high level of service.

I’ve tried a number of dishes and my opinion of their food couldn’t be higher. The bánh mì bò kho (beef stew with bread) is sublime. The stock is sinful and glistening with a layer of liquefied fat. The beef is good, perhaps a bit stringy, and the herbs enhance the flavor without overpowering. This is the best beef stew I’ve had in Saigon. My other favorites are the bánh mì thịt nướng (grilled pork sandwich) and the cơm chiên đùi gà Thái Lan (Thai Fried Chicken with rice).

And the coffee? It’s astonishing. I’ve had it with milk, with sugar, with peanuts and it was potent. I’ve had it without sugar, without ice, without a phin and it was intoxicating. Each time I was pleasantly buzzed and shaking like an addict.

I come here nearly every Saturday morning to drink heaps of cà phê đá and stuff my face with delectable grilled pork while quietly cursing the internet gods. If you liked this review, be sure to read my other ones.
